A valid licence from any US state is accepted for renting and driving in Dubai while you are here on a visit visa, and no International Driving Permit is required. Bring the physical card, not a photo of it, along with your passport.
Documents and age
- Your US driver's license, valid for the whole rental.
- Your US passport, stamped on arrival.
- You must be 21 or older. For sports and luxury cars, or any car costing AED 1,000 a day or more, the minimum is 25.
What is different from driving at home
The good news is that you already drive on the right, so the steering wheel is where you expect it. A few things still trip Americans up:
- There is no right turn on red. You can only turn right at a red light where there is a separate slip lane with its own give-way sign.
- Speeds are in km/h. 100 km/h is about 62 mph, and 120 km/h is about 75 mph.
- Roundabouts are common, including large multi-lane ones. Traffic already on the roundabout has priority.
- The legal alcohol limit for drivers is zero.
Fuel is sold by the litre, and the price is set each month by the UAE fuel price committee, so it is the same at every station.
Insurance and your credit card
Many premium US credit cards include rental collision cover, but most of those policies exclude expensive and exotic cars, so check the terms before you rely on yours for a Lamborghini. With us, comprehensive insurance is included in every rental. If you are not at fault in an accident (a green Dubai Police report), you pay nothing. If you are at fault, you pay the excess for that car, which we confirm in writing before you book, and the AED 520 police report fee.

Rental companies here often place a security hold on a credit card, which on a foreign card can take weeks to release. Our no-deposit rental means nothing is blocked; you can pay with a Visa or Mastercard, in cash, or in USDT or Bitcoin.
